Syngonium is Syngonium podophyllum. Arrowhead plant and nephthytis stay on this URL. UF/IFAS EP244 also lists African evergreen and goosefoot plant. Arkansas UAEX: nephthytis is a historical mix-up with an African genus. The houseplant is still Syngonium. It is not a philodendron.

Stem cuttings in mix
UF/IFAS EP244: cut the vine into single-node or single-eye sections and place them in a rooting medium under mist. Air 75 to 95 °F. Bottom heat helps if the root zone stays 70 to 75 °F. Production shade on that sheet is 80 percent, 2500 fc. That is a greenhouse figure, not a windowsill recipe.
Arkansas UAEX: single-eye cuttings. A stem with 10 leaves becomes eight single-eye cuttings and one terminal cutting with two leaves. Into a 6-inch pot, plastic bag. In about two months the leaf bud at the base of the petiole begins growing. UAEX: milky sap, a rarity in this family.
No opened extension names a hormone for Syngonium.
Do not average EP244's single node with Illinois or Iowa general sheets that want at least two nodes. Those generals are not Syngonium-named.
Water cuttings
Missouri G6560: cuttings may be rooted in water.
UMD Maryland Grows names Arrowhead, Syngonium podophyllum: a 3- to 5-inch stem, at least one node, some leaves at the tip. About 70 °F. Roots can take several weeks. Change water at least twice a week. After roots appear, another week or two in water, then pot.
DUMN: can be grown in water.
EP244 teaches mix under mist, not a water protocol. Illinois's general propagation page does not recommend water. Do not average UMD's 3 to 5 inches with Missouri's general 4 to 6 inches.
Division
Missouri G6560 checks division for Arrowhead (Nephthytis). Illinois's key is A and D. NCSU names division.
No opened extension gives a clump count or weeks for Syngonium division.
Common mistakes
- A second URL for arrowhead plant or nephthytis.
- Averaging UMD 3 to 5 inches with Missouri's general 4 to 6 inches.
- Averaging UAEX's about two months of bud growth with UMD's several weeks to roots.
- Treating EP244's single node as the same recipe as general two-node stem cuttings.
- Treating the houseplant as true African Nephthytis, or as a philodendron.
