When should you change the water in the jar?

Cuttings stall in a jar when the water goes cloudy or sits too long, or when leaves rot underwater. Iowa State: change water about one to two times each week, and never let roots dry in air. How to use

  1. Count whole days since you last emptied and refilled the jar (not just topped it up).
  2. Pick how the water looks right now: clear, starting to look cloudy, or clearly cloudy.
  3. Check the boxes only if they are true today: leaves sitting in the water, or a stem that feels soft, mushy, or collapsing.
